About us

SITA UK was established in 1988 and currently employs more than 6,000 people.  We have a proud history of delivering environmentally responsible and innovative waste solutions throughout the UK.

A recycling and resource management company, we deliver solutions to 12 million residents and 40,000 business customers, to help everyone reduce the impact of their waste on the environment.

In 2008 SITA UK managed more than 10 million tonnes of waste, recycling and recovering 30 per cent of this through our network of recycling, composting, energy-from-waste and landfill facilities. We also generated over one million MWh of electricity from our landfill gas and energy-from-waste facilities - enough to power approximately 220,000 homes.

We work with a vision of living in a society where there is no more waste.  This vision draws on the concept of the circular economy. In this model, waste management services are linked with the cycle of production and consumption, as waste is recognised and utilised as a secondary resource in the manufacture of new products - giving waste a ‘second life’.
