Giving something back
Most of us like to ‘give something back’, be it to friends and family, neighbours, our children’s school or a local community project that means something to us. Many of us would also like to work for a company that does the same.
At SITA UK, we are based within the communities in which we operate. This means we become much closer to those communities and the people in them.
We look to establish close links with these communities, supporting local causes as well as contributing to national charities through our Giving Something Back programme.
This has seen us build a network of staff ‘education ambassadors’ who volunteer to talk to local groups and schools about what we do and the importance of recycling – something we hope will foster ‘green thinking’ among generations to come. The work supports our existing , including our education website and our Green Packs for teachers.
It also encourages fundraising for local and national causes, while the SITA Trust supports a variety of local environmental and community projects.
The programme is overseen by a committee of representatives from across the company, including our employee forum, to monitor progress and look for new ways to give something back.
SITA UK’s work in this area was recognised in 2011 when we became the first recycling and resource management company to feature in the Sunday Times ‘Best Green Companies’ league table.
Meanwhile, our commitment to the environment was recognised when we were awarded the Carbon Trust Standard – another first for a recycling and resource management company.
