SITA UK & composting
SITA UK is committed to composting organic materials, including green garden waste and kitchen waste, to help reduce waste volume and manufacture a range of quality assured green compost products for local, regional and national markets.
We compost over 300,000 tonnes of compostable material per year and operate a number of composting sites that include both traditional Open Windrow Composters (OWC) and advanced In Vessel Composters (IVC).
At the forefront of composting within the UK, we are developing composting solutions and marketing compost products. A key part of APEX, which supplies compost to the landscaping and retail markets, the philosophy adopted is that composting is a production process manufacturing quality compost for use in identified markets.
SITA UK is helping to lead the way in the next generation of composters, designing and constructing state of the art sites for various local authorities and commercial customers across the UK, thus enabling the composting of green waste and catering waste. SITA UK composters currently being designed and constructed meet and exceed required standards and ensure that the solution provided is sustainable both economically and environmentally.
We are also increasingly being asked to help develop solutions for customers producing biodegradable waste, to help ensure that they meet environmental responsibilities and reduce the cost of treatment and disposal.
SITA UK is committed to helping local authorities meet recycling targets through the provision of composting facilities that can process a whole range of materials including green waste, catering waste and, where required, other household biodegradable waste. Through our Organo brand, we can demonstrate to local authorities that their waste is being properly and effectively recycled and marketed, ensuring they can gain recycling credits.
SITA UK is committed to helping customers, big and small, reduce their waste disposal costs and operate more environmentally friendly disposal schemes by aiding them in the development and implementation of cost effective and robust solutions for the composting and marketing of specific biodegradable waste streams.
SITA UK is actively helping to shape national composting policy and legislation, and provide educational facilities to demonstrate the benefits of the composting process. We are committed to implementing further our own quality control scheme and have signed up, and been accredited, to independent standards to demonstrate the quality achieved.
