What you can do

Each and every one of us can make a difference to the environment. Following three basic principles, below are some suggestions as to how ...

Reduce, Re-use and Recycle

  • Consider packaging when buying. Can the packaging be recycled? Is there an equivalent product with less packaging?
  • Use less. Using even just a little less of things, from cooking oil to shampoo, can make a difference - creating less waste and saving money too!
  • Use fewer carrier bags. Take a good strong re-usable bag shopping with you. Many supermarkets sell strengthened re-usable bags which they will replace for free when they are worn out. Re-use any carrier bags that you do have.
  • Re-usable nappies are widely available and an excellent way to reduce waste. (The UK throws away 8 million disposable nappies every single day!)
  • Recycle garden waste by composting.
  • Recycle kitchen waste, like eggshells and teabags, by composting. For more information on composting, click here.
