Food and garden waste

Composting is the oldest form of recycling organic material.

Organic materials, such as food and garden waste, make up a significant part of household waste and most organic materials can be composted.

Composting is the biological process of breaking down this organic matter by various micro-organisms to create a substance which can then be used as a fertiliser and soil conditioner, helping new plants to grow.

You can learn more about the composting process here.
