Collection

SITA began in waste management in 1919, collecting refuse in the city of Paris. In the late 1980’s UK local authorities began to contract with private sector companies to provide refuse collection. SITA UK was in the vanguard of companies responding to these needs and won its first UK local authority contract in 1989.

Our reputation for excellent service provision at competitive prices places SITA UK as an ideal contractor to provide collection services and has led to our operations expanding throughout the UK. Today we collect refuse from 12 million residents in partnerships and contracts with local authorities.

We operate collection services in every type of environment – from large urban conurbations in London and Bristol, to Metropolitan Authorities such as Doncaster and for rural Districts like Purbeck in Dorset. Our different experiences of what is needed to effectively serve each of these types of communities means that SITA UK has practical knowledge of operating all types of vehicles and services and knows the performance levels that can be achieved.

This knowledge is a vital component of our capability to deliver services for local authorities that meet their own particular needs, in the most effective way, and achieve Best Value.
