SITA UK manages eight long-term IWM (integrated waste management) contracts across the country, serving more than 1.2m households and managing over two million tonnes of waste.
Running an integrated waste management contract means that we are responsible for managing all the municipal (household) waste in an area. For example, in South Gloucestershire, we manage the collection, recycling and disposal of all the unitary authority's waste, which is 150,000 tonnes per year.
Providing clients with one point of contact means that we take the risk out of waste management. We are able to manage waste flows effectively across a county and we also provide advice about how to increase recycling rates and improve efficiencies for our customers.
We offer a range of solutions to manage waste. In Cornwall, for example, we are currently refurbishing the household waste recycling centres in the county to increase recycling rates. On the Isle of Man, we operate an energy-from-waste facility so that none of the island’s waste goes to landfill and we have composting facilities across the country to create award-winning compost from organic household waste.
With our experience in public sector waste management, SITA UK has unrivalled expertise in providing integrated solutions, including those with PFI backing. This includes managing the complexities of an integrated waste contract and understanding the need for investment, the complexities of the planning process and the role of communicating effectively with members of the public.
