Launch of the SITA Schools Environment Challenge
The largest recycling and waste management company in Northern Ireland, SITA Northern Ireland (NI), has launched a schools competition, the 'SITA Schools Environment Challenge'.
The competition will require pupils to complete a project of their own design illustrating how we can look after our environment. Each school that wishes to participate in this challenge is being asked to submit a maximum of one entry for one or more of the following three groups:
- Group 1: Key Stage 2
- Group 2: Key Stage 3
- Group 3: Key Stage 4
The three individual winners, one from each group, will be chosen by a panel consisting of senior representatives from Classroom 2000 (C2K), Business in the Community (BITC), and SITA Northern Ireland. Winners will be announced by SITA Northern Ireland on World Environment Day on 5th June 2009.
The winner in each group will win a computer and a visit to a state-of-the-art waste treatment facility.
Entrants are being asked to show how we can improve the way we look after the environment through our community and individual behaviour.
Teachers and pupils can obtain information about this competition on the
LearningNI virtual learning network accessible in every school in Northern Ireland.
David Palmer-Jones, Chief Executive Officer of SITA UK, said: "SITA Northern Ireland is committed to working with local communities, schools, and educators to improve general appreciation of environmental issues and sustainability. To achieve this aim in Northern Ireland we have teamed up with Classroom 2000 (C2K) to make educational material available to all schools in Northern Ireland."
