New household waste recycling centre gets the go-ahead
Plans for a modern Household waste Recycling Centre at the former Grove Nursery site off Hazlehead Avenue in Aberdeen have been given the go-ahead by City councillors.
Recycling and resource management company, SITA UK, welcomed the decision. This new development will provide residents in the west of the city with a much needed facility to recycle an extensive range of material including wood, electronic equipment, garden waste, batteries, paint and oil as well as glass, paper, cardboard and metals.
The new site will be the fifth Household Waste Recycling Centre in Aberdeen and the first in the west of the city. It will have the capability of managing up to 8,000 tonnes of material every year, recycling over 70 per cent and ensuring that more of Aberdeen’s waste is diverted from landfill and put to better use.
Martin Cracknell, Strategic Development Manager for SITA UK, said that independent assessments undertaken to accompany the planning application had demonstrated the site would have a negligible impact on noise, transport and ecology and that the benefits it would bring to the City’s residents would be far ranging and beneficial.
“We welcome the decision taken by Aberdeen City councillors in granting permission for this new facility, which is integral to the City’s plans to develop more sustainable ways of managing waste by diverting it from local landfills.”
