Public exhibition to present proposal for composting facility near Arkwright

Recycling and waste management company, SITA UK, is holding a public exhibition to consult with residents about its proposal to develop a composting facility near Arkwright.

The proposed facility would be developed on the partially restored Arkwright opencast colliery and would accept garden and kitchen material collected mainly from the Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire areas.

Gareth Swain at SITA UK said: "We know that people support the need to recycle and compost more of our waste and to do this effectively we need new facilities like the one we are proposing. The composting process would take place within an enclosed building and the process would be carefully managed. We are currently carrying out a comprehensive environmental assessment, which will be submitted with the planning application."

Gareth Swain added: "Our staff will be on hand at the exhibition to explain more about the facility, answer questions and record any comments. All the comments we receive will be taken into account as we prepare our planning application. We hope that lots of people will come along."

The exhibition will be held on Friday 13th March 2009 between 2pm and 8pm at:

The Arkwright Centre (Scarsdale Hall room)
