SITA Northern Ireland supports new community environmental support programme in Ballymena
Recycling and waste management company, SITA Northern Ireland, has announced its exclusive support for ARENA Network’s new Environmental Community Action Programme.
The new programme will provide practical support to help communities manage their waste more sustainably. Help will also be given to groups engaged in positive local activities, such as litter picks and tidy-ups, as well as information and advice to help householders save money by introducing environmental initiatives in the home.
The programme is being delivered by ARENA - the environmental arm of Business in the Community - with support from SITA Northern Ireland.
Ballymena will be the first area to be supported through the new Environmental Community Action Programme.
Marshall Hay, SITA (NI) Development Manager said; “SITA Northern Ireland is committed to working with local communities to improve knowledge of
environmental issues and sustainability.
“To achieve this aim in Northern Ireland we are delighted to announce our
exclusive support for Business in the Community’s Environmental Community Action Programme.
“SITA (NI) is the largest and most experienced recycling and waste management company locally and we hope this experience will benefit the new programme.
“We are commited to working with the local community to develop more
sustainable solutions for managing waste.”
Sue Ward, ARENA Network Director said; “Arena Network NI views this as a fantastic new relationship and our team are very enthusiastic about beginning the new Community Environmental Action Programme.
“With SITA’s exclusive assistance, other communities in Co. Antrim will benefit from the programme and there is potential to extend it across Northern Ireland."
The programme started with an event on November 12 at Ballymena North
Conference and Recreation Centre, where the new programme was introduced to local community representatives and statutory officials.
Mayor of Ballymena Borough Council, Cllr Maurice Mills, saw firsthand how the new programme will help the local community and said; “This new environmental initiative is an exciting development for Ballymena.
“I congratulate SITA (NI) for their civic vision and responsible approach to the community and the local environment.
“This partnership is a model of best practice that many of our companies could learn from and I wish SITA (NI), Business in the Community and the local community every success as the initiative unfolds.”
