SITA UK offers new wood recycling facilities in Sclattie
SITA UK has successfully completed a number of improvements to a household recycling centre in Aberdeen offering customers new wood recycling facilities.
The Sclattie household waste recycling centre on Bankhead Avenue will give residents who use the facility the opportunity to recycle a number of items such as furniture, doors, fencing and other timber.
The works were funded by Aberdeen City Council and represent an investment aimed at improving the recycling facilities within the city as well as improving the layout of the site.
Alongside the new wood facility, residents are also able to recycle several other items at the site including paper, cardboard, cans, plastic bottles, electrical equipment, textiles, used engine oil, as well as household batteries.
SITA UK has worked with Aberdeen City Council since September 2000 and currently operates four household waste recycling centres in the City on their behalf – helping to recycle over 8,700 tonnes of rubbish every year and divert this from landfill sites. The company has recently submitted a planning application to develop a further recycling centre in the west of the City at Grove Nursery.
Colin Forshaw, Senior Site Manager at SITA UK, said: "The facility at Sclattie currently recycles around 57 per cent of all waste brought to the site by Aberdeen residents. We anticipate that the new wood recycling bay will help to divert up to 500 tonnes per year of wood from landfill which is equivalent to around 180 full grown trees, and continue to improve the recycling rate for the site."
Peter Lawrence, Waste and Recycling Manager at Aberdeen City Council, said: "Providing increased recycling services for residents in Aberdeen is a key priority for Aberdeen City Council; recycling more materials at existing centres along with developing new sites across the city will take us a long way to meeting our ambitious recycling targets."
