Statement from SITA UK
David Palmer-Jones, Chief Executive of SITA UK said today: "I am delighted that Theresa May has agreed to take decisive action on this issue. The proliferation of metals theft over recent years because of high metals prices has reached epidemic proportions, threatening, among other things, the safety and integrity of our vital transport and communications infrastructure, and as an industry we need to be doing all we can to support the efforts of government and police to combat this menace and tackling the estimated £1.5 billion worth of cash payments is a major step forward ."
