Team meeting with a difference

Recycling and waste management company staff had a different format for their annual team meeting (Wednesday 15 October). One hundred and twenty employees, including its CEO, David Palmer-Jones, helped to manage the Riverside Park in Leicester.

Planted 15-20 years ago the park requires constant management. SITA UK’s employees spent the day thinning woodland and clearing invasive scrub to help create micro habitats for plant and animal life.

The day was organised with the help of BTCV, the charity set up to provide environmental conservation volunteering schemes throughout the UK and around the world.

David Palmer-Jones, CEO SITA UK, said: "We could have gone karting or something similar but we felt the project run by BTCV was a good opportunity for our team to put something back."

Alex Hewins, Project Coordinator, BTCV said: "Leicester City Council’s Riverside Park is an 8-mile green corridor that follows the River Soar and Grand Union Canal through the heart of the city. There is a wide range of biodiversity within the park, from large wetlands and woodland areas to public parklands. Such a large group as this one from SITA UK can make a real impact, improving the biodiversity and the enjoyment of visitors to the park".
