SITA UK wins Calderdale contract

SITA UK announced today it has been awarded Calderdale Council’s new seven year waste services contract with a possible one year extension. The company will work in partnership with the council to provide new and improved recycling and refuse collection service for its 192,400 residents. SITA UK will also be responsible for operating the authority's transfer stations and household waste recycling centres.

The contract will begin on the 1 August 2008 and will see the existing kitchen waste trial implemented fully across the borough resulting in weekly collections of kitchen waste and plastic bottles, along with fortnightly collections of other recyclables and residual waste. The council’s aim is to encourage residents to recycle more and reduce waste going to landfill.

SITA UK is in discussion with Kerbside Calderdale, the community sector group, regarding a partnership arrangement to provide all the recycling services required under this contract.

Kerbside Calderdale are currently providing recycling collections to 26,000 properties within Calderdale and SITA UK look forward to developing this partnership to ensure that residents receive the best possible service.

David Foster, Municipal Operations Director for SITA UK said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the contract with Calderdale Council and are looking forward to working with the council and the residents to help improve recycling rates and meet the targets for landfill diversion.”
