Over 20 million tonnes of food waste is produced each year in the UK, with most of it going to landfill. This disposal comes at a cost: both to the environment and to business. In landfill, food waste breaks down to produce methane (a potent greenhouse gas) and businesses face an annually-increasing tax on anything they dispose of in landfill.
Switching to separate food waste collections means that food waste can be reused by composting it. Tonnes of kitchen waste that would otherwise end up in landfill are instead transformed into a renewable resource, minimising the impact of your business on the environment and also avoiding landfill tax.
Food waste disposal with SITA UK could not be easier – our service is clean, environmentally friendly and will immediately reduce your carbon footprint. We’ll provide you with a bespoke food waste caddy to keep indoors, complete with removable biodegradable liners. Once your 100% compostable biobag is full, it can be tied up and placed outside in a larger food waste container provided for outside your premises. Your food waste collections will take place at least once a week and we can provide you with information on how much waste you are diverting from landfill.
Your glass recycling can also be collected at the same time as your food waste. Our twin-pack vehicles can pick up both materials at the same time in separate compartments, saving your business additional cost and avoiding extra carbon emissions by using just one collection vehicle.
