Electrical and electronic waste
UK households throw away a million tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) each year, with and the same amount again produced by businesses, schools and hospitals.
In January 2007 the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive came into effect, with the aim of reducing the amount of equipment produced and encouraging consumers and businesses to reuse, recycle and recover electrical equipment.
Introducing new responsibilities for businesses and other non-household users of electrical and electronic equipment, the new regulations cover products such as computers and printers, TVs, mobile phones, lighting, electrical and electronic tools, household appliances.
SITA UK offers a WEEE collection service, providing suitable containers for the waste type and a collection service to transport the material to one of our specially equipped locations for processing.
