Recycling centre management

Our recycling centre management services for local authorities

We operate 120 household waste recycling centres (HWRC) throughout the country on behalf of local authorities.

We manage these facilities to maximise the amount of recycling, helping local authorities to reduce the amount of waste that is sent to landfill.

We are able to offer a full range of services to local authorities looking to develop a recycling centre. We can design, build and finance the development of the facilities and once up and running we can operate them on behalf of our local authorities.

SITA UK recently retained the Lancashire contract to operate 23 HWRCs on behalf of the council, all of which achieve annual average recycling rates of between 60 and 75 per cent (excluding inert waste).

We can also provide integrated resource and recycling management facilities that combine recycling centres with other facilities, such as material recycling facilities (MRF) or energy-from-waste (EfW) plants.

At our existing sites, we have used a range of proactive measures to help improve recycling rates, including increasing staffing, accepting a wider range of recyclable materials, changing the layout of containers on site, as well as providing recycling awareness courses to all our recycling operatives.
