The mission
To produce fuel from waste that can be used as a replacement for coal in CEMEX cement kilns
Producing fuel from waste reduces reliance on fossil fuels, while providing a long-term solution by diverting waste away from landfill.
Our solution
We process waste at our purpose-built facility in Rugby to produce a solid recovered fuel. This facility creates the fuel from carefully sifted and shredded waste primarily from businesses across Warwickshire for use in cement production.
Under our 25‑year contract, we supply cement company CEMEX with up to 250,000 tonnes a year for use in its nearby kiln.
Suitable materials are selected using air separation and near infrared for this high‑energy fuel, called Climafuel®. Metals, plastics and paper
are extracted for recycling. Any materials with a high chlorine content, which would interfere with the cement‑making process, are also removed.
The results
Thousands of tonnes of waste are diverted from landfill and processed in our facility to produce Climafuel for CEMEX.
The fuel replaces traditional coal as an energy supply, and helps meet the significant energy needs of the CEMEX plant and improve its environmental performance.
