David Palmer-Jones

Chief Executive Officer

David Palmer-Jones became Chief Executive Officer of SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in October 2008. Prior to rejoining SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in 2006, where he began his career, David spent 12 years working in Europe for both SUEZ in Sweden and France. David was Chief Executive Officer of SITA Scandinavia from 2003 to 2006.

David has transformed the way the company views the management of waste for its customers, moving towards a resource efficiency and recycling-led approach. Until June 2017, David was also the President of the European Federation of Waste Management (FEAD).

Tracey Leghorn, HR Director

Dr Tracey Leghorn

Human Resources Director

Tracey joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK’s executive committee in 2018. Her Human Resources career extends over 20 years in the public and private sectors across a range of industries, most recently as a People and Organisation Consultant with the world’s largest professional service organisation, PwC. Tracey has extensive experience in improving organisational performance, achieving sustainable growth, and, in the design and implementation of large-scale transformational change. Tracey is a Chartered Fellow of the CIPD and her academic credentials include a Master of Laws degree and Doctorate from the University of Leicester where she undertook research in the area of ‘Women and Work’.

Florent Duval

Chief Finance Officer

Florent joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in March 2016. He has been with the SUEZ group for 12 years and was group Head of Planning and Control based at SUEZ’s headquarters prior to moving to the UK arm of the business. Florent started his career at Arthur Anderson and Ernst and Young.

John Scanlon

Chief Operating Officer – Operations

John Scanlon became Chief Operating Officer of Operations in 2015 and was previously Chief Operating Officer of the Processing division. Before that, he was Business Development Director and has served on the executive committee since 2003. John has over 20 years’ experience working in the recycling and waste management industry.

Graham Mayes

Chief Operating Officer – Business Development

Graham joined the SUEZ recycling and recovery UK executive committee in 2003. His responsibilities range from public sector development, business transformation, infrastructure development and project management, to international trading of recyclables and alternative fuels. One of Graham’s notable accomplishments was the successful delivery of seven public private partnership waste infrastructure projects (including energy-from-waste facilities).

Having joined the group in 1993, Graham has also been our Chief Operating Officer for Material Sourcing, Legal Director, Operations Director, and Public Sector Commercial Director.

Gary Mayson

Chief Operating Officer – Energy

Gary joined the executive committee in October 2015. As Chief Operating Officer – Energy, he is responsible for all of the landfill and energy-from-waste facilities operated by SUEZ in the UK. Gary has been with the SUEZ group since 1998 and has held a number of senior roles in this time, including General Manager for the Energy division and General Manager for the North. Gary’s background is as a civil engineer and prior to joining SUEZ he held a number of engineering and technician roles, including at the Environment Agency and Preston City Council. Gary has an MBA from Manchester Business School.

Stuart Hayward-Higham

Technical Development Director

Stuart Hayward-Higham is Technical Development Director at SUEZ recycling and recovery UK. Stuart is currently responsible for non-bidding emerging development activities in SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, delivering tools, techniques and information to meet customers’ business imperatives. This includes delivering new solutions or making successful niche activities mainstream through to market intelligence, market modelling and forecasting.

Main activity themes for Stuart include harnessing waste as a resource, energy and bio-fuels manufacture, sorting, extraction and value enhancement for waste mix resources and the increasing introduction of circular economy based products and solutions.

Adam Read

Dr Adam Read

External Affairs Director

Dr Adam Read joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK as Director of External Affairs in September 2017. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the waste sector as an academic, researcher, local authority officer and consultant. Adam is currently responsible for government liaison and working with UK and international trade bodies in the sector, sitting on a number of technical working groups with the ESA, CIWM and FEAD. In his previous role as a consultant, Adam supported local authorities (and their service providers) in reviewing their services, procuring solutions, and considering alternative partnering models. Adam is a communications expert, a regular contributor to trade journals, and a well-known conference speaker and workshop facilitator.

Naomi Jones

Director of Communications

Naomi joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in March 2009. Before this, she worked in agencies in the retail and property sectors. Naomi has specialised in brand positioning and corporate communications for a range of high profile brands.

Mark Thompson

Director of Legal and Company Secretary

Mark joined the business in 2002. Previously, he worked in private practice as a commercial lawyer for three years having qualified as a solicitor in 1999.

Matt Rogers

Chief Information Officer

Matt joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in 2016, following positions in the property, insurance and banking sectors. Matt specialises in digital delivery, enterprise architecture and software development to help lead business transformation.

Ben Harding

Ben Harding

Corporate Development Director

Ben is responsible for all aspects of private sector business development, with most recent focus on the manufacturing, retail and food and beverage sectors.

With over 16 years of experience in the waste and resource management industry, Ben has a wealth of knowledge about the private and public sector. Before joining SUEZ in 2011, Ben worked for Sterecycle, Entec UK and Waste Recycling Group.

Jane Roberts

Director of Industrial and Commercial Process Standardisation

Jane joined SUEZ recycling and recovery UK in 2013 as General Manager for Industrial and Commercial before taking up the position of Director of Industrial and Commercial Process Standardisation in 2016. During her career, Jane has worked in both manufacturing and service industries. She started her career in accountancy and progressed through to commercial tendering before moving into senior operations roles at City Link Ltd and Geodis.
